my story

My journey into becoming a teacher started in a completely different direction to most people, and my journey into becoming a teacher was also very unusual!

When I was younger I was a dancer and wanted to be a dance teacher with my own dance school, when I applied to go to dance college I didn't get the placement I had hoped to and at the time my whole world crumbled. I was so upset that I may not be able to have my own dance school one day (what I didn't know then was that that event happening was in fact the best thing that could have happened to me!).

What I thought was a huge set back was actually setting me up for the path I was meant to take, I am teacher... just not a dance teacher!

When I told my parents that I hadn't got into dance college and I didn't know what to do, they both said the same thing "Study something different for a year and then try again next year" - This was the best advice I was ever given.

I have always been very interested in wellness and beauty right from a very small child and so I applied to beauty school and got in.

I had no idea what beauty school would be like, I didn't think it would be a challenge and when I went to my first class I wasn't really expecting anything. To my surprise I absolutely loved it! I was completely in love with it, I was raising my hand to every question I was totally engrossed in everything that was being taught, and my love for wellness soon shifted my dreams into working in Spas and becoming a masseuse and being in the wellness industry.

When I finished college, I got a job working in a Spa, I was there for quite a few years, I was trying to soak up and learn everything I could and getting as much experience as possible. Massage and wellness soon became my area of expertise.

After a few years I decided to go self employed, and set up my own little business. As time went on though I was noticing that more and more of my clients were coming in with aches and pains that massage helped with, for a while, but I felt that there was more the client could do from home to really fix the problems, so I started showing my clients stretches that I knew from my dancing background to see how much of a difference it would make. It made a huge difference, my clients were seeing huge improvements in their posture, there general pain management and also their mental health!

This got me thinking about doing a possible yoga course, and coincidently I was asked by an owner of a new Taekwondo studio if I would be interested in training as a yoga teacher and teaching a yoga class to his students. - To which I of course said yes.

So I took the yoga course and trained to become a teacher, I set up my first little class in Norfolk and as time went on started doing more classes, covering classes for my teachers and gaining experience and getting comfortable with teaching yoga in a class setting.

I went from not really knowing what yoga is, to practicing asana everyday, going to classes three times a week, studying the philosophy and just generally becoming hooked on the incredible teachings yoga has to offer.

After a few years of teaching whilst living in my home town I then had to say goodbye to that class and moved away, those few years were unbelievably tough. I had to start my business from scratch and lets just say money became very very tight! I had to stop going to classes to be taught yoga because I simply couldn't afford to go.

It was so hard, but I am glad that it happened because that is what led me to create my YouTube channel.

This life changing time taught me two very important things, firstly, that you do not need to spend money to learn yoga. Secondly, everyone should be entitled to learn yoga regardless of whether they can afford to go and learn. This is when my YouTube channel was born.

I wanted it to be a place where people can learn the incredible teachings of yoga, for free.

Yoga was never created to be a money making scheme, and that is what is at the heart of my YouTube channel.

As my YouTube channel grew and I learnt more yoga, did more courses, and my classes got busier and busier I decided to start branching out from YouTube again.

I started up more classes, began teaching workshops, creating online yoga programs, I started collaborating with some amazing business', planning retreats, and of course teaching more online!

I created this website to hold everything that I offer in one place!

I am pleased to say that to this day I am still as in love with yoga as I was the day I stepped into my first class, maybe even more!

I have loved every second of my journey to get to where I am today. I am thankful for every student and supporter I have had. I am grateful for all the lessons the hard times have given me and I am so blessed to have some of the knowledge and ancient wisdom of the yogis. To be able to honour their teachings and teach what yoga I know to my students is the true blessing in all of this, without those teachings my life would've been completely different.

If you are someone who has been with me from the start then thank you so much and if you are new here then welcome along for the ride!

This is not the end of my story, there is so much coming in the future and I can't wait for you to come along with me.

I look forward to teaching you whether its an in person class, a workshop, online program, on my YouTube channel or however else we meet!

See you on the mat
